Even in these times of increasing digitalisation, analogue business correspondence is still a part of everyday office life. Quotes, invoices, enquiries, cover letters, to mention just a few, continue to be sent by post on business letterhead.

In addition to the content, the look of a letter must also be perfect. A professional and appropriate design can thus contribute to the success or failure of a business relationship. For this reason, it is not only important to have printed letterhead, but also to consider the desired appearance and what your letterhead should say about you.

With cleverly positioned company details such as the logo, address, telephone number and email address, an individually designed letterhead serves as an ambassador for your company and is, therefore, a cornerstone of a uniform corporate design - just as much as your custom business cards. Have your letterhead produced in classic CMYK or with spot colours. The right choice of colour radiates the emotions that your company wants to communicate to the outside world.

Go the extra distance: Send your business correspondence in matching custom envelopes or mailing envelopes, too. That way, you'll win your customers over the moment they glance at their mailbox.

Spoilt for Colour Choice – Should You Order Letterhead in CMYK or Spot Colour?

Paint buckets – Spot colours
With spot colours you always have control over your corporate design.

You want to guarantee that your letterhead is 100% reproducible? Can't reproduce your desired colour scheme in the CMYK colour spectrum? In addition to standard CMYK four-colour printing we also print letterhead using spot colours.

Spot colours are used whenever the required printed product demands more than four-colour printing can deliver. With these spot colours, mostly defined according to Pantone or HKS palettes, it is possible to print other colours outside the CMYK colour palette. A major advantage of spot colours is also a significant increase in brand recognition.

Thanks to their fixed formula, HKS & Pantone colours always look identical wherever in the world they are printed. They are therefore perfectly suited for companies that rely on a specific colour to define their corporate identity. One example is the famous ZDF Orange.

In our online shop you will find a variety of other print products with spot colours. Take a look around.

On Which Materials and in Which Formats Can Letterhead Be Printed?

Materials

Depending on your requirements, you can have letterhead printed on a variety of paperweights. Four-colour printed letterhead is produced on papers between 80g to 120g. For printing with spot colours we have 80g and 90g papers available. You can choose between offset and laser preprint paper. If you want to print on both sides, it is recommended to use a paper of at least 90g.

CMYK: Offset: 80g, 90g, 120g; Laser Preprint: 80g, 90g
Spot colours: Offset 80g, 90g Laser Preprint: 80g, 90g

  • Offset Paper: The undisputed classic offset paper has a matt treated surface. Due to its rough structure, it absorbs ink very well, a fact that makes it easy to write on. Due to the way colours are absorbed, images may lose some depth of field, but also appear softer.

  • Laser Preprint: Print and print again. Preprint paper is specifically designed for office use. It's designed to be printed twice; first in the print shop, then in the office using laser and inkjet printers. Preprint paper is ca. 30% drier than normal offset paper, which prevents the paper from deforming too much during offset printing and ensures that it passes through the office printer optimally in the second printing pass.

  • Recycled paper: reducing pressure on forest ecosystems and conserving resources. Recycled paper is made from 100 percent recovered paper. This not only helps protect our timber reserves, but also results in lower water and energy consumption compared to conventional papermaking. Because of deinking — the key process used to remove printing ink — recycled paper is often grayer than other paper types.

What Should Be Considered When Ordering Letterhead?

To ensure that the final result always comes out the way you want it to, please follow the instructions in our data sheet or design template. It is best to always allow for a 2 mm bleed for elements that extend to the edge of the page. All important content such as texts, logos and graphics should also be positioned with a safety clearance of 5 mm from the edge, or 20 mm in the case of hole-punched letterhead. This way they won't fall victim to possible manufacturing tolerances.
