The Cross Fold with Roll Fold in Portrait

Leaflet with cross fold with roll fold

Welcome to "13 in one go". Today we will once again be presenting a folded leaflet out of our collection - the cross fold with roll fold. So stay tuned and read with us, here we go.

Leaflet Mini-Series "Stories Round the Bend"
In the first part of our mini-series we dealt with the fundamentals of the difference between folding and creasing. If you missed it or haven't read it yet, you should go back and read the french fold product page. To start with, we make a distinction between two basic fold types: vertical and horizontal. You can easily tell how they both look from the names alone. The mother of all folding methods is the parallel fold. This is where all folds simply run parallel to each other. This results in different numbers of pages, depending on how many times it is folded. A single fold produces a four-page spread, folded twice, you get six pages, folded three times you get eight pages, and so on.

The descendants of the parallel fold are highly diversified, with the family tree featuring well-known names such as the roll fold and the concertina fold, as well as eccentrics such as the step fold and unique specimens such as the frog fold. If it's not folded in parallel, it's folded crosswise. Once lengthwise and once crosswise, with fold lines at a 90° angle to one another, and the french fold is complete. In its original form with two fold lines it results in four pages. The distinction between parallel and perpendicular folds is by no means set in stone. With various combinations, you can create a wide range of folds to suit all tastes.

The Cross Fold with Roll Fold Is Born.

The cross fold with roll fold belongs to the family of combination folds, i.e. it is a mixture of cross fold and roll fold. It is folded once horizontally and then twice vertically, with no change of direction, which is also known as wrapping. It is therefore not folded once, not twice, but three times. This results in a total of five creases and a folded leaflet consisting of 12 pages which just require filling.

How big? – Formats
Once classic, twice square, three times rectangular - these are the six formats you can select from when ordering your cross fold with roll fold leaflets.

  • Classic format: A6 (105 x 148 mm)
  • Square: 105 x 105 mm; 120 x 120 mm
  • Rectangular: 100 x 210 mm; 105 x 210 mm; 120 x 180 mm

Important to consider: When we speak of "format", we are always referring to the final format, i.e. the format when folded. When opened the folded leaflets naturally take up considerably more space. To find out how large your folded flyer will be once opened, please refer to the data sheet for the respective format and fold.

On what? – Materials
The cross fold with roll fold can be printed on the same paper types as the french fold. Can't you be more precise? But of course. The selection ranges from coated art paper to offset and recycled papers, and you can choose from a paper weight of 80g up to 170g. Ah yes, and we also offer coated art paper in "matt" or "gloss" finishes. If you are itching to know more about the different types of paper, you can find out more - in the "Thousand and One Papers" section on folded leaflets.

A Few Words on Print Data – What Should Be Considered When Creating a Cross Fold with Roll Fold Leaflet?

There is no getting around certain instructions concerning print data either. After all, the last thing you want is a nasty surprise when your order arrives.

Instruction number 1: Allow a bleed margin - at least 2 mm. This is particularly important if elements in your layout run right to the edge of the page. Without an appropriate bleed margin, white "flashes" can appear at the edges of the page - and they can be quite the eyesore.

Instruction number 2: Maintain a safety clearance. Cutting and folding takes place in our finishing department - and despite all their precision deviations can occur. You can allow for these tolerance ranges when creating your print data by leaving a safety clearance of at least 5 mm from the edge of the final format for text and image elements.

Instruction number 3: Pay attention to page orientation and order. The cross fold with roll fold contains twelve pages - but where precisely do the title and back cover come? And which pages need to be rotated 180° in the print template to ensure that nothing comes out upside down when printed? You will find the answers to these questions in the data sheet for the respective product, including a few illustrations to give you a better idea.
