Perfect for Prolific Writers and Organisers: Have Your Planner Printed Today.

For all those who write their appointments as a haiku, or compose their to-do list as a ballad, and immortalise their notes in short stories, for all those who find that their annual, wall or monthly calendars do not offer enough space and need more to write into, we have the solution. Our Planner, or for the Brits the diary.

The Planner: View from Outside ...

Buchkalender/Terminplaner

Planners in the classic A5 format not only offers ample space for planning, organising and writing, they also make a great impression: The padded hardcover not only has that premium look but thanks to matt or glossy cellophane lamination it also serves as protection. Even if you spill your coffee or drop a glass of water in the heat of the moment, liquids can be easily wiped off the cover without the planner becoming a total write-off.

This also ensures that the book's cover and your potential advertising message stays preserved. The entire cover can be used for your design, and since we print in four colours, you can create colourful accents to grab attention in a meeting, on the road, or in the office hallway, spreading your message to the world.

Discover the Planner: A Peek Inside ...

As we mentioned earlier, the interior of the planner offers plenty of space for appointments, notes and the like. There is a separate page for each day of the week, while Saturdays and Sundays share one page. Half-hourly divisions make it easy to organise daily appointments between 7 am and 10 pm.

The planner is equipped with a bookmark to make sure you can always find your place. There is also a corner perforation - when removed daily, this will quickly show the current date.

Aside from the calendar itself, the planner also offers an extensive information section in the front. This includes the annual overview of the previous, current and coming year; an overview of national and international public holidays and the dates of public holidays across the various German federal states for the current calendar year. This is all rounded off with an address section in the back for entering contact information. This may all seem old-fashioned if not totally superfluous in the digital age, but we prefer to see the planner as a classic that continues to prove its adaptability - paperless office or not.

Making the Perfect Planner: Helping You Help Yourself.

Don't ignore or forget to read our data sheet for the planner. While the same applies for every calendar or product from your online print shop printworld.com, planners call for particular attention - as you might have noticed from the fact that the data sheet is twice as long as that of other products. And for good reason. Designing the cover alone is a science in itself. What don't we have to think about!

  • The format: A5, (148 x 210 mm) when closed and 311 x 210 mm when open. The print file should be submitted in a 341 x 240 mm format. So many formats. Is that really necessary? Yes, it is, as there are a number of practical concerns for the production of your cover.
  • Calculation task 1: The supplied file should be 341 x 240 mm, the open format is 311 x 210 mm. That amounts to a difference of 30 mm for each dimension. Where does that come from? The binding. This accounts for 15 mm on each side of the cover, which is then folded around the front and back of the book cover and glued underneath the front and back endpaper. All design elements that lie within this area will accordingly not be visible. The 15 mm on all four sides should therefore be accounted for and maintained as a safety margin. When designing an appointment calendar, it is important to make sure that important text and image elements are not placed in this area.

Digression: Front/Back Endpaper

The front and back endpaper is glued to the book cover and the book block. As the names suggest, the front endpaper comes before the first page and the back endpaper after the last page. The front and back endpapers each consist of a double sheet folded in the middle, the pastedown and the flyleaf. The pastedown is glued to the cover for stability, while the flyleaf is there to protect contents from dirt and dust.

  • Calculation task 2: The book calendar is available in a closed final format of 148 x 210 mm (A5); in the open format it is 311 x 210 mm. So the height is correct, but where does the difference of 15 mm in width come from? The reason for this is the planner's spine. This is 21 mm wide. In addition, there is an area of 8 mm each for the groove on the front and back (or when opened, to the right and left of the spine). This needs to be there so that you can actually open the appointment planner. This leaves an area of 137 mm each at the back and front, which forms the actual front and back. Strictly speaking, the planner still falls 3 mm short of the A5 format, since the book cover and spine are each 145 mm wide.

Besides the information mentioned above concerning format and designing the book cover, the planner data sheet, like all of our fact sheets, provides detailed information on further questions that (may) arise when creating your print file. How much ink coverage is allowed for my file? What is the minimum resolution? What is the minimum size for fonts and lines? Answers to these and other questions can be found in our data sheet. It also includes a few diagrams for illustration purposes. In the case of the planner, this also includes views of the calendar itself. This lets you get an idea of the inner workings of the planner in advance.

Last But Not Least - A High-Quality Planner Takes Time.

Our request to you: Allow enough time for the production of your planners. After all, such an elaborate print product is not made overnight. Your online print shop printworld.com estimates 16 working days to print and produce calendars. That may sound like a long time. But high-quality planners take their time. And since the new year always begins on the first of January, you can plan well in advance.
