Order Affordable Business and Catalogue Envelopes – What Sets Them Apart?
Despite many new digital communicative innovations such as email, traditional mail has not gone out of fashion and is still an important component of serious business operations.
A printed business or catalogue envelope is a good way to attract readers' attention even before they open the post. The design options for envelopes are almost limitless: from logos to large motifs, every catalogue envelope can be printed. This allows your company to send a clear message before the recipient even gets to the real content.
Of course, the content also counts - just add letterhead to match your envelopes to your order!
Good to Know! The Difference Between Traditional and Mailer Envelopes.
In contrast to conventional business and catalogue envelopes, mailers can not only be printed, but also filled using modern mailer machines.
To enable the mailer machine to grip the envelopes better, mailer envelopes have a cut and flap format several millimetres larger than that of standard envelopes. For this reason, the flap is also always located on the longer side of the envelope. In order to be sealed by machine, the printed flaps of mailer envelopes are coated with a moist gum, in contrast to the self-adhesive flaps of traditional envelopes.
The advantage is clear: Letters can be dispatched in bulk within a very short time in printed mailer envelopes.
Everything Ready to Post? The Different Zones on an Envelope.
The open space of an envelope seems to offer plenty of room for graphic expression, but when designing the envelope it is important to consider the postal conformity of the letter!
Deutsche Post divides the front of a letter into a total of four zones. Each of these zones serves a specific purpose and must be handled differently when designing.
To ensure your mailer envelopes are optimised for postage, here is a short overview of the different zones:
- Indicia Area
The area at the top right. This is where stamps or franking machine prints go. No design elements may be placed here. The indicia area occupies 74 x 40 mm (width x height) in the upper right corner of the envelopes.
- Return Address Area
The area at the top left. This is for the sender's address. However, since nowadays this is usually placed directly above the recipient's address in the case of window envelopes, the zone is often not needed and can therefore be designed freely. Here you can place company logos, graphic imprints and pictures.
The height of the sender area of the envelopes is also 40 mm and offers the best place for designs. The width depends on the space required by the indicia area. - Shipping Address Area
This is where the recipient's address goes. The sender's address could alternatively be placed here in a single line above with a maximum font size of 8pt.
The address should be at least 15 mm from the left edge of the envelope. The windows on all of our envelopes are already optimally configured. - Route Codemark Zone
This zone is reserved for the post office and should therefore not be designed or printed. A barcode will later be printed here in the Deutsche Post post office for machine sorting of the letters.
The route code zone takes up 15 mm, measured from the bottom edge of the envelope, and 150 mm, measured from the right edge. - Envelopes: DIN long (220 x 110 mm), DIN C4 (229 x 324 mm), DIN C5 (162 x 229 mm)
- Catalogue Envelopes: DIN B5 (175 x 245 mm), DIN B4 (248 x 346 mm)
- Mailer Envelopes: DIN long (229 x 114 mm)
- Envelopes DIN long: 80 grams offset white

Design Envelopes Correctly – Use Design Template.
To ensure that everything comes out the way you want it printed, please consult our data sheet or the design template for the selected envelope. Here we have clearly marked the unrestricted printable areas on the envelopes. It is best to allow for a bleed margin of up to 7 mm with elements that extend to the edge of your envelope. Furthermore, all important content such as texts, logos and graphics should be positioned with a safety clearance of 5 mm from the edge in order to avoid falling prey to possible manufacturing tolerances.
We always draw a punch outline of your envelope into the preview image after checking your data. This way you can be sure that everything will fit perfectly onto your printed envelopes before you complete your order.
The design templates are always clearly visible to download on the right-hand side of each individual product page, just above the price information. We have also compiled the most FAQs on data handling. If you have any further questions we will be happy to help you, just get in touch.
