Writing Pads

No Reason to Avoid Paper.

Not yet out of fashion - even in the digital age, writing pads are far from being out of date and are definitely not for the waste paper basket. Even though we increasingly rely on smartphones, tablets and the like, people still like to write, draw and do calculations on paper, and we use all kinds of different writing pads.

Whether it's a notepad at home for scribbling shopping lists or a note for the family; a notebook in the lecture hall for taking lecture notes or drinks list for the next party; or a "scratch pad" at work for meetings - writing pads are still very popular and we encounter them everywhere in our private and business lives. Make use of this practical marketing medium. Put your logo on the writing pad your customers reach for, it guarantees to keep you in their view. As your printing partner, our online print shop printworld.com will be happy to provide you with advice and assistance when it comes to printed writing pads.

Don't Get Lost in the Writing Pad Jungle – All You Need to Know About Print Runs, Formats and Paper Types.

Most writing pads are still printed in A4 format. So if you want to stand out from the crowd, you can do so quite simply by choosing an alternative format. printworld.com offers you a number of options, from smaller DIN formats and square formats to free form options, which can help you turn a simple office stationery item into an effective advertising medium that is not only practical but also catches people's attention immediately. Since most people write from top to bottom, most also order their writing pads in portrait format, hence the online print shop printworld.com also specialises in this format. If you want to try something new, we recommend the Wire-O bound writing pads, which are also available in landscape format.

And if you'd like to keep it short, our sticky notes are your best bet.

Number of sheets

The standard number of sheets is 50 for all kinds of writing pads. However, if you want more or less, we have the right solution for you - many of our designs also offer 25 or 100 sheets per pad.

Paper

Since writing pads are naturally made for writing, they are traditionally printed on offset paper. For those who are conscious of their carbon footprint, there is an option for recycled paper. And if the pad is to be printed at a later stage, then laser preprint is recommended. We have compiled an overview of the possible combinations of designs, print runs, formats and paper types for you below:

Move Beyond Grey – Writing Pads With Spot Colour.

At printworld.com you can have any product, including writing pads, printed in four colours. Often printing using the basic CMYK colours will meet your needs and requirements. However, there are exceptions - for example, if the pad should be kept as part of a corporate design or ordered with the same layout at regular intervals. In such cases, spot colours are used because their essential feature is their uniqueness - no matter what and how often you print - the spot colour remains the same and therefore always consistent.

You too can take advantage of this process, which is also used by Telekom, Siemens & Co. With the "Writing pads with spot colour(s)", we offer you a printed product with a wide range of HKS and Pantone shades to choose from, which you can use to give your pad a unique look. You can find out more about this topic in our spot colour printing section.

Glue, Ring or Spiral? Perforated, Punched or Bound? To Cover or Not to Cover? These Are the Questions.

Today's the day - your writing pad order is pending. After all, your employees want to take notes and customers are sure to appreciate a practical promotional gift. So let's get started: You've selected your print run, the final format is set, the number of sheets determined and the colour scheme selected - your writing pad is ready, right?

Not quite. Although a writing pad seems like a classic printed product, you'd be amazed at how many extra options there are. Glued or with ring binding, with or without a cover, with holes or even tear-off perforations - a writing pad is not simply paper and cardboard, it's more variable than you might think. It is important to think carefully about which model is best suited to your purpose.

Your online print shop at printworld.com offers you four versions to choose from: Writing pads without a cover, Writing pads with a cover, Writing pads with Wire-O binding and Spiral-bound notebooks. As the names already indicate, they differ in a number of ways.

Cover

Most of them come with a cover as a standard feature. On the one hand, it protects the inner pad from dirt, on the other hand it is the ideal advertising space to place your company logo in a prominent position. For the "writing pads with a cover" and the "spiral-bound notebooks" we use a matt print paper for the cover. This creates a striking contrast to the offset paper of the inner pad and makes it look more elegant. For the "Writing pads with Wire-O binding" the cover sheet is printed translucently on polypropylene. This combines quality with durability: The polypropylene offers stability, while the translucent surface provides a high-quality appearance.

Last but not least: No cover, no problem. Of course, we can also print writing pads for you without a cover. However, you do not have to go without the advertising impact. Your logo can be integrated into the layout of the writeable portion of the pad as well.

Binding

To begin with, a writing pad is not a pad, but an assembly of loose individual sheets. After the printing and cutting processes, depending on the number of sheets selected, the individual pages of the pads are gathered together and cardboard is inserted. This gives you the writing pad in its raw form, but it still lacks cohesion. What holds the pad together at its core is the binding. At printworld.com this comes in three forms: glue, Wire-O, or spiral-bound. Our writing pads, with or without covers are bound by our classic method: glue. Proper glueing ensures that the block does not disintegrate into its individual parts when you hold it in your hand, carry it in your bag or simply pass it around the workplace. On the other hand, the glue must not be too firm, because when a sheet is full, it is often torn out. So it all boils down to getting the right balance.

And for the final touch of stability, the backer board provides the finishing touch. This is essential to any block and is therefore a standard feature of all our writing pads. Of course the same applies to the versions that are not glue bound. At printworld.com we offer wire-bound pads as well. This method originated in England and is therefore commonly known as by the term Wire-O-binding. The convenient feature of this design is that each individual sheet can be turned 360 degrees. Even if a page is full, it does not have to be torn out, but can simply be turned over. The wire binding is used for both the Writing pads with Wire-O binding and the spiral-bound notebooks.

Punched holes

Filled pages do not necessarily have to end up in the waste paper basket. Punched holes transform a writing pad into a permanent storage medium in paper form in no time at all. Depending on the design, 2 or 4 holes are available, with the exception of the Wire-O bound model which does not require any holes at all.

Please note: When creating the layout for punched holes, you should ensure that there is a safety clearance so that text and images do not accidentally disappear. More about this in the next section.

The First Step Is the Print Data.

Before you order your writing pads and have them printed, please take a look at our data sheets and the instructions in the corresponding design templates. Why? Well, because we want to print what you have in mind. When creating the print data, there are many pitfalls that need to be avoided.

First of all you should leave a bleed margin of at least 2 mm around the edges. This means that in addition to the final format of your order, you should add a margin of at least 2 mm on all four sides of the document. For example, if you order a DIN A4 writing pad, the print data should not measure just 210 x 297 mm, but at least 214 x 301 mm. In addition, important items such as logos or text should always be positioned at least 5 mm from edges, depending on the design. For writing pad variants with perforation and/or binding, you should allow a somewhat larger safety clearance of 16 to 28 mm, so that individual elements do not fall victim to manufacturing tolerances during processing.

Data sheets and design templates for the various writing pad versions can be found on the product page at the top right next to the calculation section.

We generally check your print data before the order is placed either with a basic check or an advanced data check. These will notify you about the basic printability or qualitative aspects of your file, depending on the type of data check selected. After the print data check, you will receive an inspection sheet which will show you where there is still room for improvement or which flaws still need to be corrected so that your file can go into production. In addition, after a successful check, a "preview" of the print file is generated, allowing you to check the layout once again. However, do not be alarmed if it looks a little blurred: The preview is rendered with 72 dpi. Printing is of course done according to the resolution that you create.

A Pad Is on Its Way: Shipping and Delivery Times.

Good pads take time. This means that, unlike many other print products, the production of a writing pad takes longer. Time that you should allow for when ordering. Specifically, this means up to 8 working days of production time for the writing pads with covers and spiral-bound notebooks. It is a little faster for the writing pads with Wire-O binding: We estimate up to 6 working days for production. The fastest of all is the writing pad without a cover: You have the choice between a production time of 3 or 5 working days and can choose between standard and express delivery. All other versions are usually sent with standard shipping.

Another important piece of information about shipping: printworld.com ships small print runs as a parcel, for larger runs you as the customer have the choice between parcel and freight forwarding, for very large runs we automatically send by freight forwarding. Since writing pads are a heavyweight among printed products, it doesn't take too long to reach the shipping limit: Depending on the number of sheets and paper weight selected, this can occur with print runs of less than 1,000. You should also consider this when placing your order because delivery with a forwarding agent should be carefully planned. If you have any questions, our customer service staff will be happy to provide you with advice and assistance. Do not hesitate to contact us; either by email at service@printworld.de or by telephone.
