Print Z Fold with Cross Fold Leaflets

Just like the cross-fold zigzag fold, only completely different, namely the other way round. With the zigzag cross-fold, you first fold twice vertically in opposite directions, then once horizontally. In the end, the zigzag cross-fold also offers a lot of space on 12 pages.

Always Leave Them Wanting More – The Z-Fold with Cross Fold.

Leaflet with z-fold with cross fold

All good things come in ... 13. At least with folded leaflets from printworld.com they do. We carry 13 different options. One of them is the z-fold with cross fold, which we are now presenting. One could describe it as the brother of the cross fold with z-fold. The two do indeed look deceptively similar at first glance. So as not to overlook the differences, let's take a closer look.

How a Concertina-Cross Fold Leaflet Is Made.

In terms of folding, the z-fold with cross fold leaflet moves from the vertical to the horizontal. The open format is folded twice vertically, initially resulting in a six-page z-fold. The second step is to fold horizontally. Then there you have it, a 12-page parallel z-fold leaflet.

Leaflet Mini-Series "Stories Round the Bend" – Chapter 5 - Folded Products and Where to Use Them.

Now that we have covered so much about and around the fold, this chapter of our mini-series asks the question: Which products are actually folded and what are they used for? The answer is lateral ... sorry, logical.

In principle, anything with more than two pages is considered a folded product. Of course, the first things to come to mind are folded leaflets but folded business cards and foldable posters also belong in this category. Even brochures, whether wire or adhesive bound, begin as folded products; before the pages are stitched or glued, they are first folded.

And finally the question: Why 13 fold styles? Isn't one enough?

You can safely file that sentence under the heading "rhetorical questions". Different and distinctive is the motto. Especially if you want to present a product to your customers. And that's exactly what folded leaflets aim to do, whether as an event programme, a menu, a tourist pamphlet, or anything else you can come up with. How can you tell one thing from another when everyone is doing the same thing.

There are also practical considerations: Information can be put in a nutshell; but it can also be presented in an extravagant, colourful and spirited way, winning over the reader-slash-viewer in text and pictures, with puns and metaphors, colourful pictures and elaborate illustrations.

In short, four pages are enough for some people, while others won't settle for less than twelve.

Who needs how much space is of course also a matter of design. Which brings us to the question of "How do I design my folded leaflet?" And this is precisely where we see the rationale behind the different folding options.

The roll fold is certainly the most common type of fold for menus, exhibition programmes etc. In keeping with the motto "clarity despite length", products and price lists can be presented just as well in a concertina format. The cross fold can be found in countless subspecies geared towards delivering information to tourists, often including city or hiking maps. The cross fold can be neatly folded so that it fits perfectly into your pocket. Eye-catchers such as the gate fold and frog fold place essentials in the spotlight - perfect for folded flyers that showcase images in the centre and accompanying text in the margins.

Although almost every folded leaflet has its intended purpose, nothing is carved in stone. After all, all roads lead to Rome. So don't worry about frog folds as opposed to roll folds, or step folds versus zigzag folds - they are all eye-catching and often produce the desired result faster and better. So give it a try, experiment and find the right leaflet for the right occasion. We're excited to see what you come up with.

A Few Words on Print Data – What Should Be considered When Producing a Z-Fold Cross Fold Leaflet?

We would again like to make a suggestion: Use the relevant data sheet for your product. It gives you basic information on how to create data correctly and will also answer questions that you may not have thought of yet. Whether concerning final format, page orientation or bleed margins - this short guide to putting print data together is our little helper for drafting and fine tuning print files. You can always find it to the right of the calculation window.
