Step One - The Choice of Print Run.

How many desk calendars do you actually need? One for you, another for your secretary; then your colleagues could certainly do with one too, as they have also sweated their way through their fair share of meetings. And they are also the ideal give-away for business partners as well as customers new and old. So this is something to think about in depth. Step Two - One or Two Pages per Week?

How much space do you need in a calendar? If you only want to enter a single appointment, you can get away with very little writing space, but if you need to add more information about the event, location and participants, you could add a little more space. printworld.com offers a model for both options. Are you a space-saver? Then choose version 1 with 64 pages - with one page of space per week for your appointments. Version 2 offers almost double the number of pages - 112 - for those who write a lot. When opened out, model 1 displays two calendar weeks one on top of the other; while model 2 displays one week above which you can enter short notes, with space below for appointments. The whole thing is held together by a white spiral binding.
Aside from the number of pages, the variants also differ in colour. The 64-page model is black and red, the 112-page version black and blue. Apart from that, however, the key technical data are identical: The calendar block measures 304 x 105 mm and is printed on 70g offset paper.

Step Three - Information Inside, Presentation Outside.

The calendar block is covered with an upper and a lower cover made from solid bleached sulphate (SBS) board. The lower cover is 30 mm longer than the upper cover - 304 x 135 mm - and therefore protrudes below. The upper lid and the protruding edge of the lower lid form a single surface when closed. If you open the calendar, only the section of the bottom cover remains visible. A clever design allows you to take advantage of this for promotional effect - since that is what the top and bottom covers are made for - to present you, your company and your message.

What Should You Pay Special Attention to in The Case of the Desk Calendar?

The usual suspects, of course. These include file format, colour space and ink coverage, resolution and font size. Our "guidelines on providing print data" forms part of the fact sheet and explains exactly what needs to be observed in the individual areas.
Attention: If you have already purchased printed products from printworld.com and always referred to the fact sheet, then you will know that we usually recommend a bleed of at least 2 mm. In the case of the desk calendar, one more is added, i.e. please apply a bleed of at least 3 mm all the way round. This is because here further processing simply requires a larger tolerance range in order to be able to produce the calendars cleanly.
It is also important to maintain various safety clearances to ensure that texts and images vital to the layout do not disappear unintentionally. The magic numbers are 3, 5 and 11. There should be a margin of 11 mm on the top cover from the edge of the format to the binding; Leave 5 mm of space on the remaining three sides of the top cover; and maintain 3 mm safety clearance for all sides of the bottom cover.
So that you can see what you want to be seen, we'd like to once again point out that only the lower 30 mm of the bottom cover will be visible when closed. So you should also take this into account in your design.
